With events in the gulf right now impacting fuel supply, one thing this has highlighted is our dependency upon oil, particularly from the region. When supply is constrained, things can start to grind to a halt as other nations constrain supply for their own needs.
As individuals we may be able to swap from fuel-based vehicles to electric to get around these constraints, but services we depend upon not so, it takes a bit more planning to get that infrastructure in place. It beggars the question, is the time now that we should call upon governments to initiate planning and to deliver incentives for businesses and key services to begin their transition from diesel to electric? If we can fund hundreds of billions on the AUKUS submarine program I think we should definitely look at this as a national priority.
