Supply and demand

It’s interesting that just six months ago I recall reading articles on news sites that EV demand was waning in Australia, that there was a glut of vehicles in lots and wharves as people just weren’t that interested. Then events in the gulf occurred and demand is up 40 per cent or more and our charging infrastructure is struggling on public holidays to cope.

I recall driving through the blue mountains region in western NSW in mid January, at that time I was strongly considering a Tesla Model Y. I drove for several hours through a region that included Oberon and Black Springs and saw no charging infrastructure until eventually reaching Goulburn, which ultimately led me to defer purchasing an EV; it surprised me that Australia’s most populous state had so little charging infrastructure.

I hope given the strength of EV uptake we’ll see greater investment in the required charging infrastructure, and that this won’t take too long to develop.
