Underestimating my drive

When planning my novated lease months ago, one figure I needed to determine was the number of annual kilometres I drove each year, only thing was I hadn’t a clue.

Last year I had driven a particularly large number of kilometres when moving from Perth to Wagga Wagga, doing 3,500 kilometres in 6 days, but that was the only real distance I actually knew for sure.

I hazarded a guess at 10,000 kilometres for a year thinking that was a large distance in a normal year, but I never broke that down into what it was each week — just 192.30 kilometres or roughly 27.5 kilometres daily. And though I wouldn’t do that each day, it only takes me going out of town once in a week to quickly exceed that weekly limit.

I jumped into my novated lease app today to add my monthly Tesla membership charge to submit a claim only discover my EV charging was already $1 over for the month. I had to request they up my annual limit from $420 to $800, in hoping that covers me for the odd trip out of town and the added cost of charging at public EV charging.

Just as well I had a pay rise to cover the increased costs.
