I’m back from having driven my first return trip to Melbourne from Wagga Wagga. Originally this was to have been driven in the Elexio but then earlier in the month I had the minor accident sending the car away to get repaired; still away at this point.
So, I completed the journey in my BMW X1 using the iPhone plus Waze. I decided to try something different and rotated the screen from portrait to landscape mode for the journey to see if this orientation may give me and different on-screen instructions — frankly anything would help on this trip. In the end, no, it actually didn’t help and I found it less helpful returning to portrait for the return journey as I found the display more helpful.
I had journeyed down to Melbourne the day before flying out, so on the day had ventured to a shopping mall for a massage to deal with back pain — just what you want with a 6-hour flight and very average plane seats in your future.
Massage behind me and feeling much better now, Waze was fired up for the trip to Tullamarine airport’s parking and I was off. Unfortunately, instructions weren’t the best and I needed to be one lane further across during what was heavy traffic and I ended up having to travel now towards the city away from the airport. I find this with Waze that instructions can sometimes be a tad slow as to which lane I should get into, the Elexio’s maps offers a superior alternate with current and next turns which I wish they’d provide too.
Anyway, eventually I managed to correct and find my way to the airport parking.
There is no comparison between driving in the Elexio and via your iPhone with Waze, it is just way more difficult to see what you’re doing, plus you’ve further options as I say above. That said, I experienced an issue after returning from Bali whereby my iPhone decided to overhead and refused to charge to protect itself. Thankfully, as in the BMW I had satnav and could navigate home using this on the day. If I’d been in the Elexio I assume I could have used its maps but again entertainment and Waze would have been out of the question.
Thankfully, efficiency of my BMW meant the trip only cost $107 in fuel due to it getting 1076km from 61 litres, I assume I would have come close to this too for the EV, though I did notice there weren’t many stations along the way, so not that many opportunities to charge.
