As I approach the need for my first charge, I have turned to Gemini to evaluate my options with public charging. Are there times when chargers are best used? Should I become a member or does the monthly membership fee outweigh savings gained?
Tesla Superchargers are my nearest available charging option, without membership the rate per kWh is $0.79, but pay a $9.99 monthly fee and this drops to $0.66. No benefit is gained if I were to charge once per month, but I would be ahead if I did need to charge twice monthly going from 20-80%.
NRMA chargers are located in town, though I read they’re not the most reliable and also have few ports. Also, you require membership with NRMA just to get a 5c discounted rate which isn’t worth the monthly membership fee, so the cost would be a prohibitive $0.79 per kWh.
The third option are BP Pulse who apparently have a time of day flexi rate. Most the day it’s $0.79, but during off-peak periods you may be able to get the reduced rate $0.61 per kWh rate. Gemini suggests the discounted rate is 10pm-6am.
I am going to check via the app tonight whether the BP Pulse off-peak rate shows or not; hopefully.
