After filling up the BMW X1 this morning from 3/4 to full cost me $46 I have to say I cheekily wondered was this what they meant when referring to the cost of living crisis?
I often recharge my EV from around the 20-30% range to 80%, but typically when refuelling my BMW X1 I would always refill to full. So, for the purposes of comparison I set Gemini the task of generating an infographic whereby both the Hyundai Elexio Elite (EV; using Tesla Superchargers with a membership) and the BMW X1 (Premium Diesel @ $2.79/L), each car was at 25% in the tank.

From the infographic we see that:
- Hyundai Elexio Elite
- Cost: $28.13 (estimated)
- Duration: ~65 minutes based on experience
- BMW X1
- Cost: $127.64
- Duration: A few minutes
Just refilling/recharging the cars by 75% there was almost a $100 saving experienced with the EV.
The BMW X1 only comes into its own when doing distance driving, able to achieve up to 1100kms depending on how much highway driving you do, whereas if you’re only doing city driving its advantage is lost and kilometres drop down to around the 650km range, still more efficient than the Elexio Elite that I’ve seen at 100% charge only gives me high-400s.
