In 2013, I was sitting in my Mazda CX-5 waiting just beyond the lights for traffic to begin moving when suddenly tyres behind me were heard screeching and my car was hit from behind. At the time I was living in Perth’s northern suburbs, so repair options were far more numerous, but even then I had to travel 20 minutes south to the chosen repairer.
Now, I live in rural NSW helping with my elderly father. So, after my ding in the EV on Friday it highlighted a few new considerations:
- Electric vehicle – is the repairer certified to repair
- Vehicle manufacturer certification – do they also have this certification
Despite Wagga Wagga being a sizeable rural city, and initially my insurer thinking there was a repairer close by, that repairer ended up lacking the EV certification and we had to look beyond the city. Canberra, around 3 hours or so away, had two EV certified repairers but both didn’t have Hyundai certification.
Oddly, a repairer in a smaller rural town in Victoria looks like being the chosen repairer. It is as well they will cover towing there and back given the car is now reporting its controller system as having a fault. Never regretted going for a coffee more than this past Friday!
